Hard to believe it’s been 4.5 years since Mark Wilson inspired 300+ people to walk 100 miles in May 2019.
Let’s do it again this December.
The December 100 is a month-long community campaign meant to raise awareness for healthy lifestyles, walkable communities, and all the benefits of walking as part of ordinary life.
The December 100 challenges people of all ages and abilities to walk 100 miles outside during December – that’s about 3 miles a day, folks.
In 2019, Mark was struggling with weight gain, a lack of energy and stamina, foot and knee pain, as well as anxiety and depression resulting from a recent health scare.
He walked himself back to his happy, healthy self and invited his community to join him.
The December 100 aims to rekindle some of this walk-tastic magic.
HOW THE DECEMBER 100 WORKS:
1. Commit: Complete this form.
2. Sign up: Join the Traverse City Walks Strava Club – strava.com/clubs/tc-walks – to track your progress (Strava is a free mobile fitness tracking app).
3. Walk: To work, as an errand, or just for fun, it doesn’t matter; aim for 3 miles a day to reach the 100-mile goal.
4. Celebrate: Have fun. Be social. Win prizes.
*Optional: Help Ty Schmidt write his December Out ‘n About story for the Record-Eagle
HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW:
The December 100 is both free and awesome.
Complete 100 miles and be entered into a drawing for prizes.
If you don’t have Strava on your phone, download the app, create an account, search for “Traverse City Walks” and join it. Whenever you head out for a walk, hit start in the app and then stop when you’re done. Super easy.
We believe outside is best so unfortunately, treadmill walking doesn’t count. Sorry, treadmills.
