June is Pride Month.
I’ve learned a lot about the challenges our LGBTQ+ kids face from the JED Foundation. They recently wrote:
“At JED, this means acknowledging the troubling data showing that the risk of suicide for LGBTQ+ youth is four times higher than it is for their non-LGBTQ+ peers; that risk is even greater in communities of color. This means there is a significant need for continued research; resources, like our guides to understanding gender identity and understanding sexual orientation; and support for LGBTQ youth.
One of the ways we can offer support is by sharing stories, which lets people know they are not alone in their struggles and helps to eliminate any stigma related to mental health challenges.”
At We Fight, we couldn’t agree more and are committed to sharing stories and offering support not just in June but every day.
Together, we can ensure that our northern Michigan LGBTQ+ kids feel supported and have access to the resources they need to protect their mental well-being.
Happy Pride.
